Why did the spirit of the Baba Yaga transfer to the PC? It is implied a few times that whomever kills the current person will take on the spirit themselves. It can't be a coincidence, why else would they include that detail? This is exactly how the PC, the current Baba Yaga, kills Karin. In the note above, it is also stated that the cause of death of all the victims were multiple stab wounds to the stomach. No, the BoZ was definitely the previous Baba Yaga. I know what you're thinking, "Couldn't the BoZ just be another victim?" Our playable character came upon the cabin 9 years prior to the game, and killed them, taking over the spirit of the Baba Yaga, and transforming the Butcher of Zakopane (BoZ) into potato. Okay so if this killer is potato, why is he now, you know, a potato?īecause I believe he was the previous person possessed by the Baba Yaga spirit. (1933, my research behind this is in my first post!) This dates it in 1862, about 70 years prior to when the game is set.

She calls out the remaining, besides potato, who is in the basement.Īnd for reference, Zakopane is a town in PoIand at the base of the Tatra Mountains, so we can assume this is the town closest to the cabin and where the PC goes when they need supplies.Īnother important thing to notice from this note is the date, we get a few dates in the notes. To get this dialog, you have to refuse to play hide and seek with cabbage. But if all of that wasn't enough, it is specifically said that he wasn't a part of the original chompettes. He is the obvious outlier of the chompettes throughout the entire game. Especially considering they are shared in the ending sequence of the game, it seems like they were added to hint to the players about this comparison. Then when we reach Anatoly, he asks us to go pick onions with him. While talking to Maria, she mentions several times that there is bread down in the basement, specifically, "loaves of it." This is a bread pun, just like the ones bread tells in pretty much every sentence.

they have even more obvious hints during the ending when we descend the stairs. I don't think there's many personality similarities between Onion/Anatoly and Bread/Mariah outside of basic things that can apply to any. Karin and Raspberry are both a bit strange compared to the rest (not including Potato), they say dark things at times like Raspberry saying, "Always merry: Raspberry is lie created by cabbage." And in the Chompette's Cabin Course, insists on berating the PC and reminding them of their evil acts. Similar to Gregor who is also the leader of the group (it seems that way at least, he directs the group mostly in the beginning) and always tries to share positive messages. There are also some character similarities between them:Ĭabbage is the leader of the group and always tries to be cheerful. I screenshoted them and colorpicked their actual color, and no they don't match up exactly but they are still VERY similar. The first clue that most catch onto is that the color of these characters name's are the same. I believe their primary canon purpose is that of souls of past victims, but for added fun, the developers also connected them to the four characters.Įach of the Chompettes represents a character in the game. These seem like they would be conflicting ideas, but to be honest, there's very solid evidence for both of them. The second is that they are past victims. The first is that they represent each of the four hikers, Karin, Mariah, Anatoly, and Gregor. I've seen a few other people around the internet theorizing about them, and it seems that most people have two different thoughts. Who are they? What do they represent, if anything? The biggest and most convoluted of all my questions about this game is about the chompettes. This is a follow up to my last post about my research and theories relating to Cooking Companions! Be warned again that this will contain spoilers for the game!
